Hygge (pronounced hue-guh) is a multi-genre world-hopping exploration game that has characters splitting their time between being onboard a luxury space cruiseship and being in various locations throughout time and space that changes every month. A cataclysmic cosmic event occurs in the first TDM that prevents characters from returning home after what is supposed to be a two week vacation on board the SS Hygge, and characters will be travelling to various destinations on a journey to return home the long way around.

We would like to know too! However it seems as if she is not on board the ship. Perhaps this is less of a maiden voyage and more of a test run?

The transport pod will be there at 1800, as promised. Why not give it a go anyway? It's a time-travelling ship, it will bring you back the moment you left. Those two weeks will just fly past without any of your friends, family and colleagues/peers even noticing.

There's very much an action/adventure vibe on the worldhopping months - there will be at least one major action event (think heist, rescue, escort an NPC type of objectives) and some peripheral side events (explore the town, help the locals type of objectives) to cater to a wide range of character types - and a bit more SOL (slice of space?) on the ship-bound months. It is expected if you prefer one over the other that you can continue the previous month's thread into the current month.

While there is an element of survival at the start, this will taper off over time. It's a luxury intergalactic cruiseship, you are free to smut at your leisure (with all the appropriate labels/warnings). There may be one or two destinations with horror elements (e.g. the Hygge has docked onto a location with a killer virus, the power is out and you hear this weird banging in the air ducts) but this game is going to jump from the Roaring Twenties to Feudal Japan to the Wild West to Pirates to Dystopian AI Robot Overlord to the Silk Road to Mafia/Gangster to Castle/Knights settings. It is not a horror/sex-centric game.

Very quickly if you're having fun. Even if you aren't, the time ratio in Hygge is 1:1.

The Captain will be broadcasting announcements from time to time - these will be in the event posts - but any interactions with housekeeping, engineering staff and other NPCs can be handwaved.

IC actions have IC consequences. Deliberately sabotaging the ship, injuring other characters, repeatedly trying to break into staff areas etc. will be dealt with harshly by the Captain.

Well, there are emergency airlocks interspersed throughout the living area corridors. These will be incredibly difficult to open but will suck you and anyone/anything nearby into space, where the temperatures are subzero and there is no oxygen or delicious food to subsist on. The Captain strongly recommends against it.

This is up to player discretion. If the injuries are mild/moderate, they may choose to stay on until the time comes to return to the ship. If the injuries are moderate/severe, there are emergency procedures which can expedite your character being brought back to the ship to recover in the state of the art infirmary.

This is again up to player discretion. This game does encourage teamwork over interpersonal conflict between played characters.

All feedback and suggestions are welcome here. At this stage there are enough destinations planned to comfortably see the game through into 2021 but room and time can always be made for what players want to do.

No, but where there are multiple applications for a character that has not been reserved, applications will be judged on a first come, first serve basis. Reserves will also be processed on a first come, first serve basis. No challenges will be allowed. If you play a popular character and/or if you play from a canon that is close to being cast capped, it is highly recommended you reserve to avoid disappointment.

We will be accepting characters with established canons across any medium (TV shows, movies, anime/manga, video games, visual novels, podcasts etc.) Malleable protagonists with substantial personalities will be accepted; if they are more blank-slate you will have to fill out the Information section in the app instead of just providing a wiki link. Characters from canon AUs will be accepted. Original characters in original settings or set in an MMORPG setting will also be accepted.

Pregnant characters will not be accepted. Original characters inside existing canons (Canon OCs) and noncanon AU versions (e.g. rule 63, modern AU) of canon characters will not be accepted. Characters with previous history in other games (CRAU) will also not be accepted.

For pregnant characters, the journey could be harmful to baby, and the ship is going to be making various stops at dangerous destinations. Canon characters will be confused about random relations popping up, or being treated like celebrities or if some stranger claims to know them. It veers close to fourthwalling and issues may arise with people retconning/headcanoning potentially conflicting events. Because only one version of a character in a given canon/medium is permitted, canon versions are prioritised over noncanon AUs. You are free to make an OC that strongly resembles a canon character instead of a noncanon AU. CRAUs are not allowed to discourage cliques and also minimise confusion when they recognise people from their previous games who don't recognise them here. Often life-changing events have happened in previous games that have significantly enhanced/altered the character's development. We would like everyone to have a fresh start on board the Hygge.

No. Staff were exempt from the ticket lottery and many of them are not allowed to disembark during the venue exploration months, so you would be losing out on CR anyway.

Not if they are from the same canon. Two MCU Tony Starks cannot apply, but MCU Tony Stark and comics Tony Stark are OK. Characters that share the same abilities are also permitted. This means while we would not accept two DC Comics Hal Jordans, we would accept one Hal Jordan and one John Stewart even though they are both known as the 'Green Lantern'. We will not be accepting multiple malleable protagonists either so if a female Commander Shepard reserves/apps first we will not be accepting a male Commander Shepard while she is in the game. Again, you are welcome to create an OC with a similar background story in a similar universe.

Yes, any character can be applied for as long as they are not canon OCs or CRAUs.

Yes, you can apply for these types of characters, but they would count as one character slot. You would only need to fulfill the activity requirements as if they were one character. There is no need to give Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde equal screentime either; if you prefer one over the other you can predominantly play one personality.

The ship is many things and while the medical personnel on board may be able to revive characters that die while they are out on an adventure (there's something in the nanites), they cannot bring canonically dead characters back to life. You may apply for a character at a canon point just before their deaths or do a slight deviation e.g. they left for the holiday the night before they were going to die. Injured characters will be brought from their transport pod straight to the ship's infirmary.

If it can break the game, alter reality, control other characters' actions etc. the answer is likely yes. Some abilities can be dealt with through opt-outs, some must be nerfed. If you are not sure, make a comment in your application.

There is a 4 week embargo on new content. If apps close within the 4 week period, unfortunately you will have to wait until the next app round.

Characters go to sleep that night and experience it all like a really long dream. They awaken with new canon information. Please observe the above 4 week grace period.

Splitting a franchise up into too many shards defeats the purpose of having a cap. Other series like Star Wars and Fate/ have lots of diverging/unrelated timelines with many characters as well but they don't get special treatment either.

You may apply up to 2 characters in a single app round, and have a maximum of 3 characters in the game. If you are applying for multiple characters from the same canon please ensure they do not have significant canonical interactions with each other.

Applications for canon characters are judged almost solely on writing samples. Please provide decent ones and, as fun as gag humour/shitposting style threads are, you are far more likely to be accepted if your samples showcase your character's voice, thought patterns and mannerisms. For original characters some weight will be given to the writeup of the character's background and the world they live in.

Individual transport pods will carry your character (henceforth referred to as 'you') from your home to where the ship is docked. You will awaken and step out of your transport pod into a long corridor that leads to a space that looks like a hotel lobby. Approach the counter and give your name - you will be given a key to your very own individual cabin. From then you are left on your own to explore the ship, go find your room, speak to other guests, etc. A bottle of champagne (soft drink/juice for minors) will be waiting for you in your cabin, next to your comms device. At some point during your first day there, lounging around inside your cabin, a tailor will come visit you to take your measurements. Your dimensions are needed in order for the ship to tailor make costumes that will make you blend into the different settings you are going to explore on this voyage.

Yes, it is a smartwatch-looking device that you can strap to your wrist (or any other limb of your choosing). You can make calls, send messages (if you are vision-impaired or lack dextrous fingers, it does do voice-to-text), measure your steps and heartbeat, program reminders, take photos, etc. Once you put the watch on for the first time and set it up, you might feel a very slight prick. That is the watch releasing nanites (very, very small robots) into your body. These nanites are synced to the watch's quantum processing chip which allows it to translate the different languages being spoken by everyone instantaneously. They also allow for the Captain of the ship to track you down if you require emergency assistance or are late back to the ship, among other things. Unfortunately, as with many of these technologies, the battery life isn't fantastic. You will find the wireless charger in your bedroom.

Yes. If a text was sent to the wrong person or not locked properly, it's most likely user error. Characters cannot hack into the network to read other peoples' messages/browse their photos and comms devices are biometrically locked to their owners.

Only the clothes on your back and any accessories you have on your person (e.g. necklace, watch, bracelet, earrings) or in your pockets at the time.

It is frowned upon to walk around looking aggressive/dangerous, but yes, if they were in your pocket/inside your jacket when you boarded the transport pod, you may bring it on board. Theoretically you could bring pocket knives, very small pistols, grenades, magic wands, exploding cards, notebooks that can create weapons the size of the notebook, lightsabres, the Left Arm of Exodia in mint unplayed condition, and so on. If they do go off inside the ship and do any damage to property or other people, the Captain will not be pleased.

Keep an eye out for future events.

This is for breathing apparatus, mobility aids, equipment for the vision-impaired, and any other necessary gear which your character needs that can't fit in your pockets. Please make a comment in your application if you require this. It is likely your character will find a suitable alternative waiting for them outside their transport pod when they dock at the Hygge.

Apart from the areas with 'AUTHORISED PERSONNEL ONLY' signs, you have free reign around the ship. From time to time certain facilities on the facilities page will be damaged or out of order. The 'Status:' subheading will be updated if this is the case.

The upper deck and lower deck are living quarters. The facilities are all on the main deck, on the top floor.
